Being A Photographer At The SWIGG Conference

The "Strength Within Conference" was a very inspirational experience, it was very inspirational to everyone. From the performance from Justin Hines to the different conference topics that many women had talked about, Even the women who were talking to us had said that they were so inspired by the amount of girls that showed up to listen and to talk about issues that had never been talked about and that had never been brought out from under an ashamed blanket.

With everything that had been going on, I thought it was very important to take as many pictures as I could. It was very inspiring just sitting from where I was, just to capture the moments that had many girls feeling so much better about themselves and to bring them out of the dark and into the light where they can live life happier, and learn from other womans' experiences without having to go through the same tragic story.

The conference was a lot of fun for everyone. I had asked to take pictures of many girls, and I had noticed at the beginning of the conference many girls were a little shy around the camera. As the day progressed, many girls started to enjoy getting their pictures being taken, as if the conference had made them comfortable or had enlightened them and boosted their confidence.

The conference was a great experience, my personal favorite parts of the conference was when Justin Hines had made his performance and when I had gone to the seperate conferences with the women talking about the battles they had gone through.

When I first saw the stage with the instruments and microphone, I had gotten excited because I love watching live shows. I was expecting a band to step on stage that would talk about the same issues that would be discussed in the conferences. I remember the announcer saying that the performance was going to be very inspirational and I remember thinking, "What is going to make this any different from another band?". The band had looked like an average band with the exception of the lead singer who had not gone on stage yet. Once he stepped on stage, I was amazed when he did. The man sat in a electronic wheel chair and had a huge smile on his face. He started to sing and I remember thinking about how great he was and how he should be up in the media because he was so talented. His performance left many young women in awe. As the end of the performance approached, you could feel a great vibe in the room, you could just sense how much the girls liked his music. As he left the stage the crowd roared in applause. I think that the performance he made was great and I think many of the other girls thought so too.

When it came around to the seperate conferences, I had only gone to the "Addiction" and "Body Image" conferences before I got lost. The addiction conference was very touching, a young woman and her mother had spoken about how drug abuse had effected their lives and how it had changed both their lives. With the body image conference, a female olympic player had stood in front of us talking about her experiences when she was competing. Both conferences had touched many young women including myself.

The conference as a whole, was a great experience for everyone and it was my pleasure to get to be apart of something so inspiring. So, if you couldn't make it this year be sure to come next year when I'm sure the conference will only get better.

strenght within conference:)

The strength within conference was a fun and amazing experience. My favorite session was after the attack, i liked that session because we got to hear Kim's story about her experience with rape. It was a very touching and emotional story. And I thought she was very brave to overcome her fear and tell other people what had happened to her when she was a teenager experiencing the same problems as we are. I learned that many others teenagers experience the same problems that i have and the conference was really good at informing us about them. It was also fun because i saw a lot of my old friends from Mississauga and other schools. This conference motivated girls to think that no matter what you are going through you have the power in you, U power to overcome it and move on.Overall,it was a fun and active day, and i really enjoyed it!

Conference

The strength within conference that took place at E.C Drury on April 29th 2010 was an all girls conference. Which talked about different situations that girls are age go through like the drama that we face and are bodies and how they change. We each got the choice of 4 different classes that we had to attend that day. Mine were Body Image, which was cancelled because the lady that was supposed to talk to us cancelled cause she flew somewhere else to talk to another school. So instead we listened to this 36 year old women talk about her life and the struggles that she went thorough, most were really touching like how her littler siblings got taken away when her bother and her stayed home alone while her parents were in and out of jail. And at the age of 16 she was pregnant and ran away from home. The second session was Dance like no one is watching which i didn't like very much mostly because they lied to us by saying 'no one is watching' when there was this gentlemen taking pictures as we were dancing, The third was lunch and i enjoyed that a lot because we got pitas which were delicious. The fourth one that we had was Pilotes which was nothing special. And the last which was my favourite one was called UPower I liked this one the best because i felt i could relate a little bit to the situation that Sarah was telling us about her life. I also liked the way she explained her story because she sang along with feeling and to be honest it was emotional. :) By: Kennedy Becker<3

The Strength Within Conference 2010

The sessions I took at the 2010 conference were Pilates, UPower, Dance Like No One Is Watching, and Body Image (which instead turned out to be Sex Talk With Sue). Although each session was unique and very inspiring in its own way, Id have to say my favourite one was Sex Talk With Sue. I learned so much from the speaker that day, and unlike the fun dancing and singing later that day, it really stuck with me. Each person goes through their own hardship during life, but hearing someone's really makes you think about what you're going through. I learned that as much as we may hate to admit it, we've all got it pretty easy. Our only stress is the light, ezsy things; I know I havent had to deal with an unsafe home environment or sexual harassment at such a young age. I had the opportunity to hear about what really goes on in the world; even so close to me. This conference is so very inspiring and emotional, and it meant so much to be able to hear and learn such things as I did. I know that many people may be too involved in their own lives to really think about everything that speaker said that day; I am thankful to say that for me that is not the case. I loved hearing about what happened to the lives of those women; from teen pregnancy to Canadian Idol. I know that each of us is unique, but we are going through such similar things. As I was listening to Sara of UPower, i was thinking of how I would like to become an actress; a career like hers that will bring me so much denial, and now I know that I shouldnt give up on myself or my dreams so easily. I now believe that there is a difference between a goal and a dream; a goal is something you are working at to make a reality, and I hope that one day this is true for me.

I had a really fun time at the conference. My favourtie part was lunch, I liked that we could sit with our friends and listen to the live music that was playing. I liked that fact that many other girls from other schools came to our school to learn and have fun with everyone. It was a great experience and in the future I would enjoy helping out with this conference.

hello !

I enjoyed this confrence, I thought it was fun and i learned alot. My favourite part or the day was the session, dealing with the drama. I liked this one the best because it was the funniest, we got to get up and do things to show how we feel. It was better then just sitting and listening to the person talk, thats what we did in all the other ones I went to. The whole day was a good experience, and i would like to do it again. :)

My Thought

Conference was pretty much good and excited. Everything was so creative and full of fun. My best part was when i sat with my friends and had lunch. Food was so taste. My best session was African Dance. I really enjoy there, it was so much fun and i learn lots of dancing steps.

live life <3

I went to the strength within conference on Thursday April 29th. I went to the sessions beautiful healthy skin, dance like no ones watching, dealing with the drama, and th sex talk with kim. My favourite session was dance like no ones watching, i had alot of friends in the session with me and we weren't very good at the dance but we made it our own and made it fun for us. I learned that you should be your self and not care what people say or think about you. This event was fun for the most part, I really liked it and would do it again next year. This kind of event makes me think about what i do to my self to make others like me when I don't have to because if people like me it'because it's me. I thought that alot of the girls that went were having fun, and they liked it.

I thought the strength within conference was inspiring because I got to learn alot of different things about healthy skin, dealing with drama and sex talk with Kim I also took dance like no one is watching. It was pretty crazy, but fun. I really liked the performance at the begining of the day because it made me think about how you can do anything no matter what gets in the way.

During this confrence i thought that it was fun. My favouite session was the drama session with Marsha. I liked this one because it was very interactive and I knew alot of people in the group. I also enjoyed the lunch because the cookies and pitas were good :)

what i like about the conference

I thought the conference was a great experience for me and all the girls who attended. It was way beyond my expectations. I loved the african dance,it was a way for me to show my inner spirit, to be free. it awesome, hope we have it next year again.

bloggggg! (: <3

My favourite session was After the Attack because it was interesting and scary hearing Kim Robb;s story. Her story sholws that an attack could happen to anyone, anywhere. I learned alot of things in the different sessions that I attended. In After the Attack I learned that being sexually attacked isn't your fault, in teenage mom story I learned that even when you're going through a tough time there are ways to go through it, in Dealing with the Drama I learned how to deal with the drama, instead of gettibng involved in it just stay out of it! The last session i chose to do was Talk Sex with Kim, I learned alot of new things in this session. An event like was really great for me! I got to learn a bunch of new things.

Strength Within Conference

The Strength within conference was fun. We got to meet new people, and see our friends from other schools. I went to the African Dance, it was very creative. The sex with sue was funny when they talked about it. Turning hard times into triumphs was interesting to hear her stories.

Lin Feng. (:

lifes good.

My favourite part was sex talk with kim because it taught me stuff i didnt know about that subject. Another interesting part was lunch, i loved how they set our gym up. The lunch time musician was amazing, and so was the foood ! This conference was fun because it gave me a chance to lay back, relax, and not care what others think about me. I thought this conference was very well planned out, and put together, loved it!

thoughts for strength within ☺

I thought the confrence was really good.
The things i really enjoyd was the food part, and the coping with stress class, because we got gifts at the end and plus that we were able to relax in the class.

hi

yeah also thought the food part was also okay but it could've been better. But i disaggree that the coping with stress session isn't that good. I enjoyed the making fitness fit session.

Just a Thought

Just gotta tell you girls that the 2010 strength within conference was awesome! As one of the organizers, you made all of the hard work worthwhile. It was great to see so many girls from so many schools together laughing, smiling (didn't you just love the suspended picture frames) and learning together. And I must say that Extreme Pita hit the spot for me! I honestly hope you had a great time and that you walked away with a renewed feeling of strength about yourself, that you learned some things & were inspired in some meaningful way. I am looking forward to seeing your contest entries and getting your feedback from the newsletter. If you haven't registered for the newsletter...do it...all kinds of cool things to come. :0)

Strength within

Overall I felt the Strength Within conference was a great experience. I definetly learned alot about being a leader and dealing with stress. It was great to see so many girls there! The musical performance at the begining was motivating and U power was great too(: I think that its great to have a conference like this where girls could see that they're not alone and that there are tons of other girls are going through the same things.

btw this was Rebecca's post(:
