Taking High School Co-op Education
What happens when you get fired....
I had been working at Telus for the past few months for my co-op placement. I slowly started to get closer and closer with my the other workers and the boss of Telus. My boss rarely worked inside Telus so I found it was harder to impress him with my development. My workers had told my co-op teacher that I had been doing very well and that I had been showing the skills I had expressed in my resume. During the Christmas break I choose to do a part time job for Telus. I decided to become the penguin mascot of Telus and earned an hourly income of $11. In the beginning I had worked from when Telus opened to it's closing. My boss has decided that it was too early for me to come in and advertise for them. For a few days I had gone from noon to 5 as the mascot. My boss had expressed to me to come in as much as I could during the break. One day my brother had a seizure under my care and I was not able to come into work after that. I did not think that my boss wanted me to call in the days that I would or would not be able to come in to work because he just told me to come in the days that I could. The next time I had gone into work I been asked if I had been paid for the times that I had been working for them. Answering their question I had started to walk into the back of Telus. My boss had stopped me and in front of the workers had fired me. I was very surprised and aggravated by this. Asking why I was being fired, he had told me that I would never call in of absence and would take many absences from work. I beleive this was not true through my experiance at Telus. I had tried to reason and understand with my boss but he had angrily told me to get out. Seeing that I could not have a proper conversation with him I left. After leaving I felt very humiliated and confused. I had tried to think of all the possible reasons of why I should have been fired. After a while I had given up and tried to relax. I think this was a very good experiance although it was a very emotional one. All I can say is I feel I did my best at Telus and I think it was a total misunderstanding. I think this will help me for the future. Now I am happy back at my school helping out with my co-op teacher for the rest of my hours. I feel everything happened for a reason and I am glad this happened :)

Getting Fired
What a crazy story! It sounds like you handled this really well. I would have been so embarassed. However, you are right in knowing that everything happens for a reason and you will appreciate this experience down the road.
