Ok so it’s time to change your relationship status on Facebook from “in a relationship” to “single.”  

A lot of us jump to the conclusion that breaking up is horrible and that being single is just the waiting period we have before another great relationship comes along and we can be happy again. But, why think of it that way? When you are single there are so many benefits that we sometimes forget only come from being on our own. 

For one, you can focus time on improving yourself by looking at your own needs and working to figure out who you are and what it is you want. You can go out with your girlfriends more, travel more, or spend time helping someone in your family with something they need your help with. You can also take time to reflect on new goals and set new visions for your future. 

So, if you are in the midst of changing your relationship status, don’t be afraid in the least of going it on your own. When you are in a relationship your energy and time are often focused on someone else. This is now your opportunity to spend all of that energy on building up, supporting, and nurturing yourself. Understanding who you are, what you are good at, and what you want will help empower you with strength you did not even know you had.

If being alone still sounds like it might be hard, especially after you have depended on someone for so long, remember this: the feelings you had with another person that made you so happy are all still inside of you. The trick now is to find a new way to help bring those feelings back to life by loving and appreciating yourself.
