Dieting: Fact or Fiction - By: Estelle K.

1)  A no-fat diet is good for you.

Fiction

When the words 'no-fat' or 'low-fat' appear on a package, you may think you can't go wrong but it's not so! You need some fat in your diet to lose weight because the body actually needs fat to operate efficiently. You just don't want to go overboard with greasy fried foods and stick to more healthy oils.

2) The faster you lose weight, the better.

Fiction

If you lose weight slowly, you ease into your new fitness/diet routine and you're likely to keep up with it. Slow weight loss is proven to be more successful long-term.

3) It's healthy to eat every 3 hours.

Fact

One of the biggest weight loss mistakes people make is skipping meals to cut their daily calorie count but since eating kick starts your metabolism and helps you burn calories, it's actually better to eat five or six meals throughout the day. Eating every three to five hours will maintain your energy and prevent uncontrollable cravings.

4) You should stay away from all white foods.

Fiction

The latest trendy diet is the 'no white food' fad; the belief that white foods are bad because they're high in sugar and flour which gets stored as fat but some white foods like white potatoes and yogurt are actually nutritious and good for you.
