Born to Move

The best way to keep our bodies healthy is to move them! Could it be that simple? I think so. Each of you has over 200 bones and 700 muscles: so, your body’s potential for movement variety is endless.

Getting and staying fit is about finding the ways YOU enjoy moving. Sometimes it is obvious like a team sport, dance class or gym membership. But is can also include lots of hobbies and interests such acting on stage or walking the dog.

Imagine yourself in your week. Think of the times and places you move. Are you by yourself or in a group? Is it upbeat or calm like walking in a park?

If you come to African dance and love it you probably have a more extroverted style. If you come with friends but would prefer running with an iPod you may have an introverted style.

Which is better? Neither. Honoring your body’s way is best.

We are born to move. This maintains a fit body; but moving also keeps our minds sharp and our moods even. In the book “Spark” by John J. Ratey, MD there are a lot of studies about exercise improving thinking and emotional fitness. Several US high schools have completely changed their standing and reputation just by offering the students more chances to get into the body and move.

So whatever you’re style…go out and move your unique way through the world.
