Know Your Audience

Imagine writing a school paper that included "lols,” “omgs,” “dudes” and “where you ats.” Your teacher would probably be none to pleased, unless your paper was about texting vernacular or the history of slang. Instead, you would remember that formal language is used for school papers and, since your teacher is going to be reading your finished work once you hand it in, you should be careful to follow that convention.

Crunching Letters - By: Sarah Ripplinger

It’s 9:30 a.m. and my copy editor is behind me scanning over the edits I completed just an hour ago as I feverishly try to get through 200 emails, edit the rest of our content to pass over to her and answer questions from my eager editorial intern, while sharing a few laughs with our photo editor and photo intern. It’s not a typical day at the office, but it’s not at all atypical either.

Coping with Stress

 
As a student and an 18 year old girl, I know how stressful things can be.
There’s probably a lot going on in school, at home, with friends, and maybe even in a relationship. There’s so much to worry about when you are in high school, especially when you’re trying to figure out what to do with your life.

Dog Tags

I saw my Dad’s dog tags for the first time today and never expected them to leave me speechless the way they did. There I was sitting in my kitchen having dinner with my parents when my mom turned to me and told me she had found them.

Back Again for a Victory Lap

This year I did the last thing I ever expected I would ever do, return to high school for the dreaded victory lap :(

 When it came to applying to university I thought I knew exactly what I wanted. I kept my options open and applied to several universities with similar programs and I was confident that it would all work out in the end.
