Free the Children is an international charity that is well-known for building more than 650 schools around the world, providing healthcare systems to more than a million people in underdeveloped countries, providing healthcare and medication to hundreds of communities and empowering youth leaders in North America to take action.

Emma Cosgrove is the amazing Manager of Stakeholder Relations for the NGO War Child Canada.

Lindsey Higgs has worked on youth engagement programs in Canada, Europe, East Africa and the South Pacific.

We all know that our environment is affected by climate change and we often hear people say that we should be more eco-friendly. Sometimes it's hard to know where to start. This edition is all about finding ways to help you, a Swigg Girl, be the change that you want to see in the world.

Many of my friends idolize movie stars and singers and even though I also enjoy watching movies and listening to music, I believe that true heroes are people who made and are still making a difference in the world. Some of my heroes have always been Mother Theresa, Nelson Mandela, Reverend Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama. Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always been interested in world issues and I looked up to these people who inspired me so much.

As Earth Day approached at Fisher College, I opened the floor to the EcoReps’ ideas. Over lunch in the Dining Hall, a new EcoRep suggested we have an open-mic style live performance to celebrate the Earth and to showcase talents within the community.
